My Approach

My approach depends on you! This might be better explained if I tell you a little about the process of how I counsel.

First, during our initial session, I would explain my role and get to know you and your presenting concerns or issues that you would like to work on. You would be bringing expert knowledge about yourself, and I would guide you to explore different ways of thinking and acting that could make you feel better.

Second, I would use a variety of therapies to help meet your goals. However, I find that cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is often most suitable for a wide range of issues. CBT explores the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to help resolve our issues. Along with this, we might add elements of other therapies to round out a plan unique to you.

Other approaches I have explored are dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT).

Testimonials

Client A

"My sessions with Donna were personable and comfortable. She helped me make some tremendous realizations about myself and to help me grow based on what I had discovered. I will be eternally grateful for what Donna has done for me during our sessions!"

Client B

"I was a little nervous starting therapy. It did not taker very long before I was totally relaxed, open and pouring my heart out to Donna. She was very professional and gained my trust quickly. I looked forward to our weekly sessions and my greatest lesson was to always step back and think. Look for what others involved in a situation might be thinking or feeling before I react. Thank you Donna!"
